For me the spirit of St. Martin are her coastlines, hilltops, lagoons, flora and fauna, and food: from the characteristic coastlines and azure lagoons to virgin hilltops and everything else in between.

What would the spirit of the island be without our island vendors selling their colorful items on our beautiful beaches?

Focus over airplane.-

St Martin is directly related to the sky and this picture shows clearly that spirit. Peace and tranquility of the land and the focus over the subtle point in the sky as airplane.

The spirit of St Martin/St. Maarten? Uniqueness. Everyone has his/her own style. Across the street cows are grazing and here there is a fence built out of this and that, sending a message to all who pass by.

The image of the wave hitting the rocks flowing through the moss represents the feeling of going to the beach on a nice sunny day and having a great time. Since St. Martin is a very beach oriented place I feel that it represents happiness and good times. Shot at Cupecoy Beach.

pond

The ponds are valuable natural ecosystems on the island and are important for the health of the environment. They are vital to maintain the spirit and beauty of the island.

Many have been destroyed due to development. We must preserve what is left. The pond Etang Guichard is home to many species of birds and it protected by the French side government.

Man, gas station, goat

To me this photo shows how St. Martin is. Any day you can turn a corner and see something unexpected. Whenever I went to fill up with gas at a gas station by the French side bridge, the gas station has a pet goat who always can be found liming by the entrance door on a pile of concrete blocks.

Cette photo allie 2 éléments de l’héritage de Saint-Martin : les somptueux couchers de soleil que chacun a pu admirer un jour vus au travers des raisiniers bord-de-mer que l’on peut trouver sur presque toutes les plages de Saint-Martin.

Freedom.-
St Martin is plenty of people who are forced to live outside. The plane is a subtle point in the sky for whoever looks at it from the land but freedom for the traveler.

The spirit of St Martin/St Maarten lies in our history, like these slave walls built by the strong, brave ancestors of so many. There are many all over the island. We pass them every day without really looking. So much of the island history has been lost but these slave walls remind us of what once was.

I think this picture represents the spirit of St. Martin because every person of St Martin has lived and remember that moment in his childhood, enjoying the sand on the seashore with his friends. So this time talk about all of us.
