Les Fruits de Mer brings wildlife education to the public, wherever they are. We set up a booth at street fairs and other events and deliver presentations and activities that are fun, interesting and educational. Our presence at these events gives us a forum to interact with residents, visitors and local youth. Les Fruits de Mer are available for all types of events, and we can develop content and activities that are complementary to the theme and logistics of each event.
Mardis de Grand Case
Mardis de Grand Case 2015 – Every Tuesday from January 20th to March 10th
Mardis de Grand Case are a series of Tuesday street fairs in Grand Case, St. Martin. In 2014, Les Fruits de Mer hosted a wildlife education booth, delivering a 3-5 minute presentation on a different aspect of local wildlife each week (e.g., butterflies, migratory birds, sea turtles). Our booth gave us the chance to reach thousands of people over the season. The format of a short presentation on a new topic each week was ideal for interacting with individuals and small groups. We were delighted to build up an audience of local youth who would return each week to find out the new topic and learn about local wildlife.
St. Martin Billfish Tournament
In 2014, we partnered with the St. Martin Billfish Tournament to provide marine life education, marine-themed art activities for children and on-site analysis of fish stomach contents. The combination of education, fun activities and conducting scientific research at a public event added a whole new dimension to the tournament. Our partnership was also driven by the belief that sport fishermen and wildlife lovers are natural allies in pursuit of healthy fish populations and marine ecosystems. A physical presence at the event allowed us to make personal connections and laid the groundwork for further collaboration.
