On St. Martin, knowledge and culture have been passed on from generation to generation through oral tradition. Recording oral histories is one way to tap into this tradition and make sure the knowledge isn’t lost. It also makes it possible to share this knowledge with future generations and the world. Association + Culture is a book of oral histories. Members of nonprofit associations talk about the local culture that inspires them and what they do to preserve and share it.
Association+Culture: Speaking of Heritage
Associations are a key part of St. Martin’s cultural landscape. They preserve, document, and share the unique culture of the island. In this book, we share interviews with members of three associations about their cultural work. We learn what inspired them, and how they keep culture alive on St. Martin.
